Question: We found a house plan online that we really like but we would want a few changes should we just start scratch? (Posted by: momof2here on 2008-03-28 23:06:11) What I mean is, the plan that we found online meets most of our needs but would need some architectural revision. An architect has told us that she could draw out the plans from scratch based on the floorplan and exterior drawings and include our revisions - this would actually cost less than just the plan as is from the original architect - what would you do? If we buy the plan and then hire an architect to revise it will likely cost twice as much (we are talking $3, 000 v/ s $6, 000). Any architects out there who could advise whether a very beautiful plan could be recreated by an architect just by looking at the exterior drawing and floor plans? |

Posted by: CarlosTheHoosier on 2008-03-28, 23:10:41 Many lumber yards have architects that can work up a plan "from scratch " for you for a very low price, so long as the materials ceom from them. My parents had a modest two story 3000 square foot house drawn up for under $200, just for having the contractor buy materials from their store. |

Posted by: shrutz on 2008-03-29, 01:14:04 It will actually cost you less to hire an architect to do the drawings... you can download the image of the plan that you selected and give it to your architect. then he/ she could work out something that gives you the best features of the plan and also incorporates your desires. that will go to @ USD 1500 approximately. i am an architect myself and if you are interested you can contact me at ar.shrutidandekar@gmail.com with the following details : 1. the image of the house plan you have selected 2. list of changes desired by you 3. details of the plot - the size, directions and the approach 4. location (if out of india then a few bye-laws like minimum distance to be left from the four sides and permissible built-up area) thankyou |
